Coffee is good for you!

We've all seen the headlines over the decades...coffee seems to be good for your health. But up until now, most of that research was merely observational. Scientists would notice that folks who drink coffee tend to live longer and healthier lives, but they couldn't definitively explain why.
Personally i am waiting for them to say a 16oz ribeye smothered in butter and bacon is healthy....but that's anther blog story.
A new study out of Texas A&M University (sorry bunch of nerd jargon approaching) has shed light on the actual mechanics behind our favorite brown liquid. Researchers discovered that certain compounds in coffee interact directly with a specific receptor protein in our bodies called NR4A1.
This protein acts as a crucial internal regulator, helping our cells actively fight off inflammation and stress. (who ain't stressed)
By testing various coffee extracts, the team found that coffee polyphenols—specifically caffeic and chlorogenic acid—bind strongly to this receptor. This interaction essentially activates the body's natural stress-protection systems.
The study revealed that caffeine itself didn't have nearly as strong an effect on the NR4A1 receptor as the other compounds. This explains the science behind why decaf coffee has also been shown to offer fantastic health benefits....good I drink decaf at nite.
While researchers were quick to note that the NR4A1 receptor is likely just one of many pathways through which coffee boosts our overall health, it is incredibly exciting to see the hard science catch up to what we already appreciate about the bean.
Whether you are brewing a highly caffeinated roast like our Blonde or our Max Cafe, to get energized for a long day of working in the shop, or on your train layout or at the workbench, or winding down for the evening with a rich, smooth Peru decaf, (like I do) you can feel good about every cup.
Sooooo legal disclaimer here.....coffee is not a health food supplement, we are not suggesting that coffee will cure anything but a case of the Monday blues...its nice to know that some smart folks thinks it helps keep us all unstressed a bit....and I know a great place to have some amazing beans shipped super fresh directly to your door...
